Introduction
With the successful introduction of the ‘Pacers’ (14x series), it was time to produce some bigger ‘Leyland’ Diesel Multiple Units. Two different designs were drawn up. The class 150/0 by BREL, and the class 151 by Metro Cammell. Both units consisted of 3 cars , 1x DMS, 1x DMSL and 1x MS. 2 of both units were built, and after testing in passenger services, the class 150/0 proved to be more superior, and so, the class 150/1 two car units were ordered and built for service with BR. Each ‘Sprinter’ set includes a minimum of one toilet (Except the class 158+9 which have two or three depending on no. of cars) and a Cummins type engine and are driven by carden shafts linking the engine through the gear changers and to the powered bogies.
