Class 156
The class 156 DMU was built between 1987-1988 in Birmingham by Metro-Cammell, NOT British Leyland who built the class 155s. They use the standard BSI type coupler as used on Sprinters and Pacers. A total of 114 2 car units were built (156401-156514) and operated across the country ranging from Scotland, through the North, right down to the south. The units used sliding doors like on the 150s, but unlike the 150s, they had doors at the ends of each car, like the class 155s. The class 156 was suppose to be the units used for the single car conversion, thus creating class 152s. The choice was then changed to converting the class 155s creating class 153s.
